Folic acid, formerly also called Vitamin B9, is a water soluble vitamin from the B Complex. It is mostly contained in fresh green vegetables, but it is quite fickle: it oxidizes easily and heat quickly destroys it, which is why it is common to not get enough folic acid with food.
